CAMPAIGN VS CRIMINALITY

LINGAYEN—To further check the use of motorcycles of criminal elements as getaway vehicles, the Pangasinan police launched its “Clean Rider” campaign on September 22 among motorcycle owners.

The campaign requires owners of motorcycles to present their units to a police station to be “tagged” –  to be processed for verification of owners –  and proof of which is the  “Clean Rider” decal placed on the motorcycle.

More than 100 motorcycle riders from Lingayen and Binmaley towns proceeded to the Pangasinan PNP  headquarters and participated in the signing of the Pledge of Commitment and ceremonial tagging of Clean Rider sticker led by P/Sr. Superintendent Wilson Lopez, police provincial director, and Danilo Martinez, chief of Land Transportation Office  (LTO) of Dagupan City.

Other motorcycle riders across Pangasinan presented their units to their local police stations for tagging.

Lopez said being tagged as “Clean Rider” implies riders are responsible and disciplined.

Tagging, Lopez said, enables law enforcers to identify the owner if a crime is perpetrated by motorcycle-riding suspect/s, through the stickers on their motorcycle.

He said motorcycle riders should have no reason not to have their units tagged unless they are hiding something.

Martinez said criminals prefer to use motorcycles because of their quick mobility so tagging will help them easily identify perpetrators.

Meanwhile, Martinez assured motorcycle owners that they can expect to have their LTO by 2019 because the Duerte government has established its own plant to produce plates for all types of vehicles.

P/Sr. Superintendent Gary Garen, chief of the Regional Operations and Plans Division of the Police Regional Office 1, said 7,000 clean rider stickers are ready for distribution region-wide.

P/Chief Superintendent Romulo Sapitula, police regional director, said the campaign was launched primarily: 1) To address motorcycle-riding related crimes that take the lives of high-profile victims; 2) To ensure public safety and maintain a safer place to live, work and do business to every family; 3) To minimize motorcycle accidents by inculcating traffic education and discipline among riders.
