Pangasinan expects 1.8-M voters for 2019 election

DON’T be surprised if more senatorial wannabes begin to frequent Pangasainan starting next month. Reason? Pangasinan registered 108,633 new voters as of last September 27, making the province still one with the most  number of voters in the country.

Atty. Marino Salas, provincial election officer of Pangasinan said the number is already considered a big turnout and still long queues of applicant voters in different Commission on Elections (Comelec) offices in Pangasinan were being seen to beat the deadline on Sept. 29.

He said he expects to have more than 1.8 million registered voters in next year’s polls. Pangasinan had 1,799,052 registered voters in the May 14 Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan Elections.

Pangasinan ranks third among the vote-rich provinces nationwide, next to Cavite. Cebu is first.

But based on the percentage of voters’ turnout during elections, Pangasinan was the highest, Salas said

Salas attributed the late surge to the people’s usual mañana habit.

Meanwhile, Salas said those who applied for transfer of registration, correction of entry or new registration, will have to go through validation by the Election Registration Board on October 15 before their names will be considered as registered voters. (PhilStar Wire Service)
