NFA RICE STILL P32

THE end for the period of spiraling prices of rice is here.

Households in Pangasinan can begin to expect price of commercial rice to lower in the weeks ahead because the harvest season has started and the imported rice ordered by government will start arriving in the next two weeks.

Chona Maramba, National Food Authority (NFA) Western Pangasinan assistant manager, gave the assurance last week as she maintained that per price monitoring of her office, the price of commercial rice has already seen a P1 a kilo decrease last week.

Maramba said the selling price of dried palay is already at P25 from P27 per kilo in the previous weeks, while the wet palay or newly harvested palay is at P22 per kilo.

However, NFA buying price remains at P17 and 50 centavos incentives per kilo and still cannot compete with the price being offered by rice traders.

“Hindi pa tayo makabili sa NFA ng palay sa ngayon kasi maganda pa ang presyo sa private traders,” Maramba said but added that NFA will remain as price stabilizer to prevent the private traders from taking advantage of the the farmers.

Maramba said there are 21,240 bags of NFA rice set for dispersal operations to accredited retailers and expects to increase once the government imported rice starts arriving in the next two weeks.

One hundred thousand bags (100,000) are available in NFA region and ready to be delivered to to NFA warehouses in Pangasinan.

Meanwhile, the price of NFA rice in the market remains at P32 per kilogram. (Nora Dominguez)
