FATHER AND SON

BANI— Gov. Amado Espino III squelched speculations that he and his father, Fifth District Rep. Amado Espino Jr., will switch places in the coming polls, and maintained that they will both seek re-election in their respective positions.

In a talk with newsmen during the TESDA-IACT livelihood program in Barangay San Jose, Bani, Espino said he will seek  a second term in office while his father will do the same in the Fifth District.

However, he kept newsmen guessing as to who his running mate will be and simply told them to wait till they file their respective certificates of candidacy before the Commission on Elections (Comelec) anytime this week.

Another Espino, Bugallon Mayor Jumel Espino, brother of  the governor, will run for the second district’s representative in Congress.

Gov. Espino said the clamor for Jumel to run for congressman came from barangay chairmen in the district.

Jumel will face former Espino close ally, Second District Board Member Raul Sison, who already filed his certificate of candidacy on Oct. 11 before the Comelec provincial office in Dagupan, under the Nacionalista Party (NP).

NP’s candidate for governor is Alaminos City Mayor Arthur Celeste.

Celestes filed his CoC last Oct 11 without a running mate although there are speculations it could be former Fifth District Rep. Mark Cojuangco who has a score to settle with  Gov. Espino who beat him in the 2016 polls.

The Espinos will be running under the administration party, PDP Laban, whose provincial chairman is Fifth District Congressman Espino.

Governor Espino said he will stake his performance in office as evidenced by the numerous awards in governance, the most prestigious of which is the Seal of Local Governance.

Reports have it that the province was recently named 2018 Most Business-Friendly Province in  country. (Leonardo Micua)
