IF prices of commodities in Manila are high owing to reported shortage, that is not the case in the region.

There are enough supply of fish and vegetables in the region and can be bought at lower prices except for a few items .

This was determined by Department of Agriculture Secretary Manny Piñol when he met the DA officials and officials of the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR) to discuss concerns of stakeholders on how to help the fishery industry to maintain sustainable fish supply.

BFAR Regional Director Lilibeth Signey added that farmers affected by Typhoon Ompong  can avail of Production Loan Easy Access to help farmers and fisherfolks affected by typhoon.

The affected farmers and fishermen were advised to report or coordinate with the Barangay Officials or to the Municipal City Agriculture office to access easy loan with only minimal interest.

Meanwhile, Signey reiterated that there is enough supply of bangus and galunggong in the region in spite of the typhoon.

Sec. Piñol, however, asked that the supply of fish and vegetable for Metro Manila be augmented and Ilocos Norte from the produce in Mindanao.

Signey said Pangasinan can help augment the lack of fish and vegetable for Ilocos Norte and even for Metro Manila. (Nora Dominguez)
