The demands of new politics

PANGASINAN will again be agog the whole week over who will be their likely political leaders in the next three years by watching who’s who, for what position and against whom, when the wannabes file their certificates of candidacies.

One thing is definite though, since there still is no ban against political dynasties, the province will continue to see names of members of long standing political families to being  fielded. A spouse, parent or child will likely file his/her certificate of candidacy to succeed a ”graduating” member of the family. Or a feuding siblings will come to a head and to family names will be slugging it out.

Given this situation, many communities are likely resigned to their fate that there will hardly be any changes in their towns’ and cities’ governance. But still there are those who are still hopeful that the leadership of President Duterte will lend influence to a vision of new politics in our communities.

The new brand of political vision they pray for is zero tolerance for corruption and drug trading in the barangays, vision for economic progress and more jobs, better health services and more youth activities.

If the political families do not see these as their communities’ prayer, they can expect those opposing them in the polls promising these.

Just as the climate change has dawned on the province and our people, so has new politics.

The priorities are livelihood, peace and order and good governance – translation: positive environment for business and employment, keep the drugs out and stop corruption.

Health of the nation

THE health of every President is a national concern as vital as the rice.  President Duterte, in a manner of speaking, is like the rice, that most precious staple that every Filipino could not live without.  There is no singular person in every nation more important than the President.  Mr. Duterte knows this by heart. That is why amid rumors that he was sick, he came out in the open to gallantly douse dark speculations about his health.  After declaring he was cancer-free,  he immediately flew to Indonesia for the Asean summit meeting.  Would a sick person do that?  The health of every nation depends on the health of its President, its leader. His rise is the rise of the republic.  His fall is the fall of the people.  His health is the health of the nation.  Thus, a healthy President is equal  to the nation’s wealth.  There is no truism more telling than that.
