LINGAYEN – In response to needs of increasing number of solo parents in the society, the provincial government, through the Provincial Social Welfare and Development Office (PSWDO,) held the first-ever summit for solo parents in the province at the President Hotel.

In his message, Gov. Amado Espino III commended the solo parents for their sacrifices fulfilling their roles as mothers and fathers to young Pangasinenses.

“Lahat po ng solo parents ay matitibay at hindi po kayo naglalakbay nang mag-isa dahil kasama niyo po kami sa provincial government,” the governor said.

“We are all here to help and support each other,” he added as he outlined some programs of the provincial government including the Livelihood Assistance Program (LAP) for their benefit.

The two-day summit engaged solo parents in interactive discussion on the issues and concerns affecting them, i.e., Solo Parents’ Welfare Act of 2000; Commission on Higher Education (CHED) scholarship program, Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA) scholarship program, and Department of Science and Technology (DOST) scholarship program for solo parents and their children; and the LAP of the provincial government.

The first Provincial Summit of Solo Parents Association in Pangasinan was held on the theme: “Solo Parents Facing Challenges for a Brighter Future.” (PIO/SMDG)
