BARANGAY Lasip Grande formally opened its new barangay hall and health center, following a ribbon-cutting and inauguration ceremonies on October 17 led by Mayor Belen T. Fernandez and Punong Barangay Armand Capito.

Construction of the new buildings was made possible with the help of Fourth District Rep. Christopher “Toff” de Venecia and a party list group.

Inside the new barangay hall are special desks for people seeking Barangay Drug Rehabilitation Treatment and another for victims of Violence against Women and Children (VAWC).

These desks are intended to assist drug dependents or former drug surrenderers seeking rehabilitation or treatment, and also for victims of domestic violence seeking protection from their abusers.

With the drug rehab desk, local authorities can monitor drug dependents needing to undergo the Community-based Rehabilitation Programs (CBRP) while the VAWC desk is in a secluded area of the edifice in order to keep the victims’ identity confidential.

A Barangay Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Center (BDDRMC) stockroom will also be put up to store equipment and protective gears that are most needed by the quick response team of the village.

The new barangay hall has also an office for the Punong Barangay and its own session hall.

Meanwhile, the new barangay health center is equipped with a check-up and consultation area and a station for midwives, nurses and barangay health workers.

The center will host a barangay clinic every second Wednesday of the month as well as barangay immunization scheduled every second and last Friday of the month.

Check-ups for pregnant women and deworming will also be made available at the center.

Barangay Secretary Mryna Magalong, who has been serving since 2011, considers the new buildings, replacing the old and dilapidated centers soaked in mud during recent recurring floods that provided little or no privacy at all for those seeking help from the barangay council, as blessings to the barangay people.

Magalong also credited former Punong Barangay Rodolfo Siapno for leading the initiative for the construction of new centers, as the new buildings are equipped with facilities that assure improved services to the barangay folk. (Verdelle De Vera/CIO)
