12 “graduating” mayors seek VM posts; 5 unopposed bets

HERE is the current trivia about local politics in Pangasinan.

  1. There are 12 incumbent mayors who are banned from seeking a fourth term so they decided to to run for vice mayor instead.
  2. Unopposed in next year’s elections are re-electionist two mayors, two vice mayors and one new candidate for mayor.
  3. There are 24 mayors seeking re-election.

The incumbent mayors who filed their candidacies for vice mayor are: Agno Mayor Jose Pajeta Jr, Balungao Mayor Philipp Peralta, Burgos Mayor Alberto Guiang Jr, Laoac Mayor Silverio Alarcio Jr, Mabini Mayor Alimar Briana, San Carlos City Mayor Joseres Resuello, San Jacinto Mayor Robert de Vera, San Manuel Mayor Alain Jerico Perez, Sta. Maria Mayor Teodoro Ramos, Sual Mayor Roberto Arcinue and Urdaneta City Mayor Amadeo Gregorio Perez IV,

Asingan Mayor Heidee Chua who was suspended for one year in December 2017 for placing her name and picture in the town ambulance also filed her candidacy for vice mayor.

Those without opponents are re-electionist Malasiqui Mayor Noel Anthony Geslani (Partido ng Demokratikong Pilipino-Lakas ng Bayan (PDP-Laban) and re-electionist Clark Tiu of San Quintin (Nacionalista Party (NP) and neophyte mayoralty bet Kenneth Perez of San Manuel under the Nationalist People’s Coalition (NPC).

Running unopposed for vice mayors are Rizalde Bernal of Dasol (NP) and graduating Mayor Alain Jerico Perez of San Manuel under the NPC.

The two unopposed Perezes are San Manuel Vice Mayor Salvador Perez’s brother and son.

Meanwhile, the 25 mayors seeking re-election are: Belen Fernandez (Dagupan City), Nonato Abrenica (Villasis), Timoteo Villar III (Sto. Tomas), Simplicio Rosario (Binmaley), Cezar Quiambao (Bayambang), Martin Raul Sison II (Urbiztondo), Michael Cruz (Umingan), Danilo Uy (Sison), Kim Amador (Manaoag), Josefina Castañeda (Lingayen), Dominador Arenas (Labrador), Marvin Martinez (Infanta), Eric Verzosa (Dasol), Joseph Arman Bauzon (Calasiao), Amadeo Espino (Bautista), Manolito de Leon (Basista), Gwen Palafox-Yamamoto (Bani)  Jojo Callejo (Alcala), Ramil Ventanilla (Mangatarem), Bona Fe Parayno (Mangaldan), Constante Agbayani (San Fabian), Rebecca Saldivar ( San Nicolas), Susan Casareno (Rosales) and Gerald Tambaoan (Mapandan).

Pozorrubio Mayor Ernesto Go who succeeded then mayor Artemio Chan middle of this year who was unseated for signing marriage certificates of couples in absentia also filed his candidacy for mayor. (PhilStar Wire Service)
