Team Pangasinan defeats DLSAU, 103-100

LINGAYEN —After its successful stint against the Philippine International Trading (PITC) team two weeks ago, Team Pangasinan again notched another win by defeating the De La Salle Araneta University (DLSAU) 103-100, in a friendship match on August 27 at the Narciso Ramos Sports and Civic Center (NRSCC) gymnasium.

Ace players Roxar Melendez and Marven Jophet Mamaril, both MVP players in the 1st and 2nd seasons of the Governor’s Cup Inter-Town/City Basketball Tournament, powered the team with their agility, and shooting skills.

The guest players likewise played with the same intensity and the spectators were treated to a closely played match.

Team Pangasinan is comprised of selected inter-town players, as follows: Marven Jophet Mamaril (24), Roxar Melendez (21), Reynald Ballesteros (18), Mark Kenneth Castillo (2), Garnet Asuncion (5), Manny Santos (6), Bryan Rosalin (7), Raymond Capin (8),  Robert Caasi (15), Denver Suratos (26),  Aljick Aquino (9), Rolly Bravo (11), Mariano Catabay III (4), Jarome Corpuz (10), Mark Christian Meneses (13), Jerico Mondala (29) and Robert Viray (28).

The Pangasinan All-Star team included Porferio “Jun” Marzan, Jr., Jose Rodchelle “Sonny” De Jesus, and Christian Jay “Chris” T. Calaguio.

La Salle-Araneta team, on the other hand, is composed of the following players: Mark Del Rosario (17), Lois Batungbakal (6), Rob Aquino (13), Jonas Briones (7), Nero Bautista (12), Henry Iloka (23), Jeff Lorenzo (11), Paolo Batan (32), Michael Correche (19), Lyniel Albajera (15), Edrene Bation (9), Kenneth Badillo (4), Van Pena (73), Jazon Bartolome (2), Christian Lopez (27), Kenneth Balbuena (4), Ian Dela Torre (28), Efren Cereno (22) and Alfred Sibay (33). Head coach and assistant coach are Ogie Gumatay and Ato Bartolome.

Pangasinan Sports Management and Development Council chief Modesto M. Operania said the Pangasinan team will hold game practices at the NRSCC gym regularly to further improve their performance and develop a more cohesive teamwork.

Governor Amado I. Espino, III, the brainchild of the Inter-Town/City Basketball Tournament and the exhibition games, dropped by at the game venue to inspire the Pangasinan players. (PIO/RRB)
