FOR still unknown motive, the deputy chief tanod of Barangay Bonuan Binloc in Dagupan City was gunned down and killed while seeking shelter from the rain inside a sari-sari store on China Street in that village.

The victim, Jerry Mangsat, 49, a resident of Sitio America in Bonuan Binloc, was shot in his left abdomen and was rushed to the Region 1 Medical Center where he was
declared dead on arrival.

Investigation showed that Mangsat, together with his co-tanod, identified as Nestor Querol, also of Sitio America, were on a routine foot patrol at 5:50 p.m. when heavy rains fell prompting them to seek shelter inside G & G Store.

Minutes later they were fired upon by two unidentified men.  Mangsat was hit in the stomach while Querol was unscathed.

The suspects fled immediately after the shooting.

Using the barangay service vehicle, village officials, rushed the wounded deputy tanod to R1MC where he was pronounced DOA by the attending physician.

Scene of the Crime Operatives (SOCO) from Lingayen led by Chief Inspector Myrna Todeno processed the crime scene where they recovered three fired cartridges and one deformed bullet of Cal. 45 pistol.

All possible footage of CCTV installed within the area are now being inspected and reviewed by the police. Motive of the incident is still unknown.

It was the second shooting incident that happened in Dagupan since late last month when two men, a realtor and a university professor were shot and killed while  another was wounded. (Leonardo Micua)
