MALASIQUI—Third District Rep. Rose Marie “Baby” Arenas was elected on August 28 as deputy speaker of the House of Representatives.

As deputy speaker for Northern Luzon, she hopes to actively participate in legislative work that affects the region, particularly to help promote the legislative agenda of President Duterte.

She vacated her appointment as chairperson of the Committee on Inter-Parliamentary Affairs and Diplomacy (CIPRD).

The highlight of her chairmanship of the CIPRD was her appointment as vice chair of the Organizing Committee of the ASEAN Inter-Parliamentary Assembly hosted by the Philippines in 2017, which coincided with the 50th Anniversary of the ASEAN.

Arenas is also the Country Ambassador of the House of Representatives to the Women in Parliament Global Forum. (With Philstar wire service report)
