SOME 2,000 narra and mahogany seeds were planted by different sectors in Mt. Balungao during the Oplan Broadcastreeing Program of Kapiasanan ng Brodkaster sa Plilipinas (KBP) Pangasinan.

In partnership with Abono Partylist, Pangasinan Police, LTO, SSS, DENR, Provincial Mobile Force Company and LGU Balungao, the KBP tree planting activity was held at the foot of the highest zipline in Balungao Hot Spring and Hilltop adventure managed by the Balungao local government.

According to Balungao Mayor Philipp Peralta, grass fires that have been their biggest problem every summer led to the destruction of many trees in the mountain.

He expressed elation that the newly planted seeds will replace the lost trees that can help prevent flooding in the town.

Rosendo So of the Abono partylist said planting trees is his group’s advocacy because it helps minimize the impact of climate change. (Nora Dominguez)
