San Carlos City, Bugallon, Urbiztondo, Sta. Maria advance to finals


LINGAYEN —The basketball teams of San Carlos City and Bugallon of division 1, Urbiztondo and Sta. Maria of Division II will fight it our in the championship rounds of the 2nd Pangasinan Inter-LGU Unity Games 2018 in the best-of-three series to be staged on August 31 at Narciso Ramos Sports and Civic Center (NRSCC) gym in Lingayen.

The four teams emerged as the top contingents in their respective divisions in the semi-final rounds that concluded on August 17 at NRSCC.

The LGU teams of San Carlos City and Bugallon defeated their nemesis—Alaminos City and Bayambang squads, 90-87 and 94-88, respectively, while Urbiztondo team, (champion in the first edition of the tournament) smothered Aguilar, 99-64, while Sta. Maria escaped a heartbreaking match edging Basista, 75-72.

Alaminos and Bayambang battle for third place in Division 1 while Basista and Aguilar of Division II tangle for third honor, both via knockout games.

In the volleyball event, Sta. Barbara and Alaminos City, both under Division I, fight in the championship rounds in the best-of-three series after defeating Rosales and Bayambang, respectively. In Division II, Burgos who defeated Infanta on August 17 meets Aguilar likewise in the best-of-three series.

Division 1 Rosales clashes with Bayambang while Division II Infanta and Sison collide with each other for third place both via knockout games.

The Inter-LGU Unity Games, one of the pet projects of Gov. Amado I. Espino, III was launched last year with an objective to develop camaraderie among officials and employees of the various LGUs throughout Pangasinan.

Pangasinan Sports Development and Management Council (PSDMC) chief officer Modesto M. Operania said the best-of three championship series of the two disciplines will be held on Thursdays and Fridays starting on August 30-31, all at NRSCC gym. (PIO/RRB/JAG,Jr.)
