LINGAYEN–A Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) was signed on August 14 at the Pangasinan Police Provincial Office for the implementation of a new policing approach system in Pangasinan.

Those who signed the “Community and Service- Oriented Policing System” were

PNP Region 1 Director Chief Supt. Romulo Sapitula and Sr. Supt, Wilson Lopez, officer-in-charge of the Pangasinan Police Office, Vice Governor Jose Calimlim in behalf of Gov. Amado Espino III, and Liga ng mga Barangay Provincial Federation President Arth Celeste and Mayor Silverio Alarcio Jr. of Laoac.

The new system seeks to establish a “coordinative and cooperative mechanism” between the mayors, chiefs of police, and community leaders.

Sapitula said the approach that aims to involve the community in policing, considers barangay as the primary and implementing unit of government policies and programs in the community.

“We are working out our visions and mission with the active involvement of the community in law enforcement, and so they will serve as our eyes and ears especially to areas we could hardly reach,” Sapitula said. “From this, we could build networks of individuals that can help us in our campaign against criminality,” he added.

The Police Regional Office 1 will further expand the policing approach throughout the region to ensure that quality service is maintained and the community is at ease with the peace and order of the province and the region. (Leonardo Micua)
