MANGATAREM — A barangay kagawad of Barangay Bogtong Bunao this town accidentally shot to death his wife when he missed his intended target , the barangay captain with whom who he had a heated argument.

The shooting incident that killed Teresita Vicente and wounded Barangay Chairman Ronaldo Aquino happened on August 9 in Barangay Bogtong during the distribution of palay seeds given by he Department of Agriculture.

P/Chief Inspector Benjamin E Zarate, Jr, OIC- Mangatarem Municipal Police Station, identified the suspect as Kagawad Philip Vicente.

Investigation showed a heated argument between Aquino and Vicente happened when Aquino was distributing 33 packs of palay seeds. Vicente protested the distribution and a heated argument between the two ensued that prompted him to draw his firearm and opened fire at Aquino.

Unfortunately, Vicente’s wife Teresita was standing behind Aquino and was hit on her left leg. The suspect fired another shot that hit Aquino in the body.

Both victims were rushed to Blessed Trinity General Hospital where Teresita was declared dead on arrival owing to loss of blood.

Aquino was still undergoing treatment in the same hospital.

Recovered from the crime scene were one Colt combat commander Cal 45 with serial number 160905 loaded with a magazine containing seven live ammunition.

Police Chief Superintendent Romulo E Sapitula, PRO1 Regional Director ordered the ballistic examination of the recovered firearm recovered and to trace its ownership. (Leonardo Micua)
