SAN CARLOS CITY– Suspected guns-for-hire out to kill their target, followed the latter to a neighbor’s house where he tried to hide and shot him to death last August 14 at about 5:40 p.m. in Barangay Doyong, San Carlos City.

The fatality was identified as Roger Masiglat, 39, a mango sprayer in Barangay Doyong, who the police said fled to his neighbor’s house to escape from his two would-be assailants but who still followed him inside and finished him off.

Initial police investigation showed Masiglat was going out of his house when one of the suspects opened fire at him several times using a hand gun.

He was not hit in the first volley of shots and tried to run to his neighbor but failed to open the gate.

Then he ran to the house of his relative Mario Alvarez, also a neighbor, where the second suspect followed him and shot him point blank several times. A stray bullet hit the left buttock of Ernesto Gargantilla, 70, who was lying on a hammock in the terrace of the house.

Masiglat and Gargantilla were rushed to the Pangasinan Provincial Hospital where the former was proclaimed dead on arrival.

The suspects fled after the shooting and are now the objects of manhunt

Meanwhile, motive of the slaying remains undetermined. (Leonardo Micua)
