TWO centenarians of the city received P100,000 each from the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) Field Office 1 on August 6.

This is in line with Republic Act (RA) 10868 or the “Centenarians Act of 2016” which grants P100,000 to Filipinos who reached the age of 100 and above as means of recognizing the contributions of the elderly to their families and to their communities.

The centenarians who received the grants are Eugenia Fernandez Escosio of Barangay Carael, who was born on June 16, 1917 and Epifania D. Mariñas of Barangay Caranglaan, born April 7, 1917. They are both 101 years old.

The city honored Escosio for being the oldest living Dagupeno during the 71st celebration of Agew na Dagupan on June 20 where she received a cash incentive of P5,000.

Office of the Senior Citizens Affairs President lawyer Cornelia Espanol said the beneficiaries will also receive a counterpart cash incentive from the local government. (Verdelle De Vera/CIO)
