Capitol steps up relief and rescue operations in 194 barangays

LINGAYEN — The Provincial Social Welfare and Development Office (PSWDO), on Gov. Amado Espino III’s direction, has distributed 7,350 family packs of relief goods to Pangasinenses affected by southwest monsoon or Habagat.

The provincial government began distributing family packs of relief goods in Calasiao, Sta. Barbara, Mangatarem, Bugallon, Aguilar, Bayambang, San Carlos City, Urdaneta City, Lingayen, Urbiztondo, Bautista, and Alcala since Monday August 13, where forced evacuation were effected.

PSWDO Chief Emilio Samson said his office continues to maintain close coordination with municipal/city local government units (LGUs) thru their Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Councils (DRRMCs) to augment the basic necessities of flood victims temporarily sheltered in evacuation centers.

The low-lying areas, particularly those near the Agno River continue to be highly vulnerable to flooding due to the release of water from the San Roque dam.

On August 14 , the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (PDRRMC) had advised “forced evacuation” and alerted local Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Councils (DRRMCs) to undertake the said measure.

Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (PDRRMO) Chief Rhodyn Lochinvar Oro said Espino ordered the forced evacuation of residents in high risk areas along the Agno River as “a precautionary measure.”

PDRRMO immediately deployed rescue teams to assist in evacuating residents in Alcala and Bautista due to their proximity in Barangay Wawa of Bayambang where the Agno River was rising fast.

As of August 15, PDRRMO reported evacuation in Bautista town resulted in removing 42 families or 168 individuals in Barangay Poponto and 10 families or 38 individuals in Barangay Vacante; and in Alcala (Barangay Macayo with 80 families or 400 individuals and Barangay Anulid with 25 families or 125 individuals to their respective barangay halls.

Disaster responders conducted pre-emptive evacuation of 221 families or 800 individuals in Aguilar (barangays Bocboc West, San Jose, Bocboc East, Sitio Calomboyan of Bocacliw, Tampac and Panacol) while 74 families or 300 individuals evacuated in Mangatarem  (barangays Bunlalacao, Dorongan Punta, Bogtong Silag, and Pampano).

Bayambang evacuated 220 families or 1,100 individuals from Barangays Manambong Sur, Manambong Parte, Pantol and Paragos.

As of August 15, 12NN, current level of San Roque dam is at 285.56masl with inflow of 815cms and outflow of 964cms.

Affected were 14 localities with 194 barangays Dagupan City, Calasiao, Sta. Barbara, Bayambang, Mangatarem, Binmaley, San Carlos City, Binalonan, Villasis, Aguilar, Manaoag, Bautista, Urdaneta City, and Mangaldan.

There are 7,449 reported evacuees (1,921 families) in these localities. (PIO/MGNO)
