Myrna’s Café, coffee shop with a difference

IN Arellano St. Dagupan City, there is a café with an advocacy. It’s a place where people infected with HIV (Human Immuno Virus) can find freedom and peace.

This is Myrna’s Café.

Myrna’s café is an advocacy café managed by Loida Almendares, the consolidator, and the HIV council staffs.

MYRNA means Model – Youth oriented – Rendezvous of- Networks preventing – Aids.

It promotes HIV awareness and prevention for people who are reactive and non-reactive and apart from selling its coffee products, it also provides free counseling where they teach things that teens and seniors should learn to avoid HIV i.e., where and what may cause to infect a non-reactive.

In brief, customers are taught now they can avoid and prevent themselves from getting infected

As an HIV Counselor one of our responsibility is to create awareness and prevention among the people who are at risk,” Maria Portia Aquino, HIV counselor and one of the nurses, Colegio de Dagupan said.

Apart from the Myrna’s Café, the HIV counselors also go to colleges and universities, and barangays to conduct campus chat, symposiums and lectures. They also have activities for LGBTQ communities.

At Myrna’s cafe shop, people infected with HIV are free to view and consult their situation and health without the fear of being in their conditions exposed to the public to lessen or reduce the burden they carry. (Contribute by Vincent Raga CdD)
