Team P’sinan wins in Nat’l Paralympic Games

LINGAYEN—Different-abled Pangasinenses racked up 15 gold, 16 silver, and 5 bronze medals, that won for Team Pangasinan the championship in the recently concluded National Paralympic Games staged from May 11-19 at the Marikina Sports Complex, Marikina City.

The province’s delegation of persons with disabilities (PWDs) supported by the provincial government through the Provincial Social Welfare and Development Office (PSWDO), beat a field of 66 participating teams with a total of 1,064 PWD participants.

On its third year in the Paralympics, the Pangasinan Federation of PWDs competed in athletics events, table tennis, powerlifting, swimming, and chess of two categories – Hearing Impaired (HI), and Ortho.

Gold medalists in the HI category were: Nicole Alvarea (200m dash, long jump, and 1,500m relay), Mark Joseph Miranda (400m dash, and 1,500m relay), Jerome Fernandez (1,500m relay), Jade Baniago (shotput), and Sheila Mallari (discus throw, and javelin throw) while for the ortho category, champions are: Jefryll Carilla (shotput, discuss throw, and javelin throw), Geraldine de Vera (discuss throw, and javelin throw), Noli Tabucol (100m dash), and Erick Marinas (shotput).

Fernandez also bagged three silver medals in 100m dash, 200m dash, and 400m dash events under HI category. Other silver medalists for HI category were: Miranda (100m dash, and 200m dash), Baniago (discuss throw, and javelin throw), Mallari (shotput), and Ralph Jymuel Serafin (long jump).

Silver medalists for ortho category were: Marinas (discuss throw), Almo Gene Yabut (powerlifting), De Vera (shotput), Tabucol (swimming – breast stroke), and Janice Jaranilla (table tennis – singles, and doubles).

Alvarea was bronze medalist for HI category (100m dash) while ortho category bronze placements were courtesy of Marinas (powerlifting), Rodel Cabildo (long jump), Rolly Regondola (javelin throw), and Leo Macalanda (table tennis – doubles).
