CAMP BGEN OSCAR FLORENDO—A 15 percent decrease in total crime volume in Region 1 was rrecorded from January to May 28, 2018 as compared to the same period last year, according to Chief Supt. Romulo E. Sapitula.

Sapitula, Police Regional Office 1 director, lauded his police personnel for the decrease, saying it is a good indication that the Region 1 police were “doing their job well”.

Sapitula said the decrease in both the index and non-index crimes was the result of the aggressive anti-criminality drive and stricter implementation of the anti-illegal drugs campaign all over the region to include the stern enforcement of special laws and other law enforcement initiatives.

“This is also a result of a more active partnership and cooperation with other law enforcement agencies, local government units and most especially with the community whom we serve and protect,” he added.

Region 1 comprises Pangasinan, La Union, Ilocos Sur and Ilocos Norte.

Based on the Crime Information and Reporting Analysis System (CIRAS) of the PRO1’s Regional Investigation and Detective Management Division (RIDMD), there was a total of 11,180 crime volume recorded this year as compared to 13,151 for the same period last year.

On index crimes, against persons—such as murder, homicide, physical injury and rape, and crimes against property such as robbery, theft, carnapping and cattle rustling—recorded 1,303 cases, representing a 26 percent decrease as compared to 1,759 in 2017.

Non-index crimes reported only 1,515 cases or 86 percent decline from 11,392 last year.

Non-index crimes include reckless imprudence resulting in homicide, physical injuries and damage to property; and violation of special laws such as illegal drugs, illegal logging, loose firearms, illegal fishing and local ordinances to include other crimes not included in the index-crimes.
