LA UNION—A region-wide anti-gambling operations conducted by the Police Regional Office 1 from June 15 to 18, 2018 led to the arrest of 123 persons caught gambling.
PNP Regional Director P/Chief Superintendent Romulo E. Sapitula said the simultaneous operations against anti-illegal gambling operations were conducted in Pangasinan, Ilocos Sur, Ilocos Norte, and La Union.
Arrested in 36 raids were seven in Ilocos Norte, 12 in Ilocos Sur, 80 in La Union and 24 in Pangasinan. P19,548 in bet money were seized.
They were caught playing card games and mahjong.
Sapitula said the crackdown of illegal gambling is part of the PRO1’s campaign of in response to the President’s directive to end illegal gambling in the country.
“Our police will conduct relentless operations like this to prevent the proliferation of illegal gambling activities and this is a way of expressing our sincere efforts in ensuring the welfare of the community,” he added.
So far, for the period January 2018 to present, a total of 1,223 were arrested for illegal gambling. (Leonardo Micua)
