Jobs and livelihood opportunities on Labor Day

THIS year’s Labor Day celebration in Region 1 will once again highlight jobs and livelihood opportunities.

In Pangasinan, job and business fairs will be held on May 1 at the Urdaneta City Cultural and Sports Center in Urdaneta City and the Pangasinan PESO in Lingayen.

This year’s theme, “Pagpupugay sa Manggagawang Pilipino: Dangal ng Lahi, Kabalikat sa Progresibong Pagbabago” underscores the important role of Filipino workers in the overall development framework of the present administration.

Jobseekers and workers have the option to either apply for job vacancies or venture into a livelihood, said the Department of Labor and Employment-Regional Field Office 1 regional director, Nathaniel Lacambra.

He said the Trabaho, Negosyo, Kabuhayan (TNK), a collaboration with the Department of Trade and Industry on employment generation and facilitation, will be adopted to provide broader options for job seekers and workers in deciding which path to follow.

The TNK is a blueprint for creating 7.5 million jobs mainly in key employment generating sectors, specifically in the manufacturing, agri-business, construction, tourism, IT-BPM, transportation and logistics, and retail trade and reduce unemployment rate to only five percent.

One-stop employment and legal services will also be made available by the Philippine Overseas Employment Administration, Overseas Workers Welfare Administration, Technical Educational Skills Development Authority, Professional Regulations Commission, National Conciliation and Mediation Board, National Labor Relations Commission, Regional Tripartite Wages and Productivity Board, Social Security System, PhilHealth and Pag-IBIG for more comprehensive services to job seekers, new graduates and workers re-entering the labor market.
