TWO persons involved in rain-soaked preparations for the Kalutan ed Bayambang celebration April 10 died from electrocution after accidentally touching live wires.

SPO2 Simeon Dela Cruz, chief investigator at the Bayambang police station, said that Philip Aquino, 21, from Mangaldan, was electrocuted at around 4 p.m. while connecting a cable wire near the event venue at the Pangasinan State University’s Bayambang compound.

Witnesses rushed the victim initially to Bayambang District Hospital but he was transferred to the Region 1 Medical Center in Dagupan City where he died while undergoing treatment.

Two hours later, John Ernest Sagana, 16, a resident of Bonuan Boquig, Dagupan City, was electrocuted while helping prepare a stall for the same event. He was holding a steel pipe when it touched an electric wire, witnesses said.

Dela Cruz said Sagana was brought to the Bayambang District Hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival.

The two victims were part of the crowd that was busy preparing for the staging of the Kalutan ed Bayambang to celebrate the town’s Guinness World Record for the “Longest Barbeque Grill”. (Nora Dominguez/Leonardo Micua)
