Robotics team showcases Dagupenos’ ingenuity

THE multi-awarded Divine Word of Dagupan (DWAD) Robotics Team led by their coach Yuri Rancudo, and team members, Joseph Dave Dulay, Lance Taron, Lance Bueza, and Jericho von Calicdan discussed the fundamentals of Robotics during the AMA Computer University – Dagupan Technology Talks last February 27.

As a precursor, the AMA students in attendance were also educated on applications of Machine Learning, Artificial Intelligence and Mechatronics by Francis Fernandez, founder of the Metro Dagupan Information and Communications Technology Community (MDICT).

All the speakers, active MDICT members, discussed the recent technological breakthrough on Robotics like the Millibot, a microbot that is in prototype stage created by Max Planck Institute with medical applications in bioscience, the OpenAI project created by Elon Musk that employs the latest Artificial Intelligence system, as well as the humanoid robots like Honda’s all-purpose robot named ASIMO, and China’s Jinjin, a pretty lady-like robot with facial recognition and social interaction capabilities.

School Director Minnie Malamug said she chose the topics for the event to equip the students with updated concepts in this emerging and disruptive technology.

Meanwhile, Christian Dela Cruz, AMA Dagupan dean, encouraged the Senior High School (SHS) students in attendance to further their interest in Information Technology especially in software development needed for the fabricated robots to execute commands.

The event culminated with the planned formation of a Metro Dagupan Robotics Community to get more support for “champions and advocates of robotics” in Dagupan and to encourage more enthusiasts to delve into robotics and have a venue for collaboration in improving and enhancing current achievements of local talent in Robotics.
