WAR ON DRUGS SCORECARD

AS of Saturday, March 10, twenty-two towns and one city have already been declared drug-free by the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) with more to be declared in the weeks ahead.

This was revealed P/Chief Inspector Norman Florentino, chief of the Police-Community Relations of the Pangasinan Police Provincial Office (PPPO) during last Thursday’s KBP Forum.

The latest to have been declared drug-free were Bayambang on March 9 and Mangatarem on March 10, by the Regional Oversight Committee in ceremonies attended by P/Chief Supt. Romulo Sapitula, PNP Region 1 director.

He said the Labrador town is also set to be declared drug-free on March 16, and next will be Rosales, Calasiao and Urdaneta City.

Florentino said five more towns which he did not name have already undergone final validation by the Regional Oversight Committee while more are being submitted by the Provincial Anti-Drug Abuse Council (PADAC) for validation by PDEA.

The other towns earlier declared as drug-free are Agno, Aguilar, Alcala, Anda, Bautista, Bugallon, Burgos, Dasol, Laoac, Lingayen, Mabini, Malasiqui, Mapandan, Natividad, San Jacinto, San Niciolas, Sison, Sta. Maria and Alaminos City.

Sto. Tomas is the only drug-unaffected town of Pangasinan.

P/Sr. Superintendent. Ronald Oliver Lee, police provincial director, earlier expressed optimism that all the towns in Pangasinan will be declared drug-free before the end of March.

Florentino observed that the process of validating and declaring towns as drug-free by PDEA regional office is already faster. (Leonardo Micua)
