Binalonan, 15th town declared drug-free

THE municipality of Binalonan has been validated as drug-free by the regional oversight committee during the ceremonial declaration in the town on February 7.

The declaration made the town the 15th to be declared drug-free in Pangasinan.

P/ Chief Inspector Lovell Dalisay, Binalonan chief of police, said all the 24 Barangays in Binalonan were earlier reported as drug-affected and later cleared of illegal drugs after implementing the established standard operation procedure to clear the town of illegal drugs.

The ceremony, led by Ramon Morden, who represented Governor Amado Espino III as the guest of honor and speaker, was attended by PNP Provincial Director Ronald Lee, PDEA Regional Director Brian Babang, PRO1 Regional Director Romulo Sapitula, DILG Regional Director James Fadrilan and PDEA Provincial Officer Dexter Asayco.

However, while there were 454 drug personalities that surrendered, only 382 have undergone and finished the community-based rehabilitation program (CBRP) because the 82 persons’ have since left the town and the barangay officials certified that their locations could not be ascertained.

The CBRP included a TESDA training on reflexology, welding and massage therapy.

Dalisay said the efforts to keep the town clear of drugs is sustained with seminars on anti-illegal drugs and dialogues with barangay officials with the full support of the town’s officials.

Meanwhile, P/Chief Inspector Norman Florentino, police community relations chief, said the municipalities of Labrador, San Jacinto, Basista, Aguilar, Urbiztondo, Bautista, Bugallon, Calasiao and Lingayen have already received their respective certifications from the regional oversight committee.

PDEA Provincial Officer Dexter Asayco said tentatively scheduled to be declared drug-free next week are the towns of Aguilar, Bugallon, San Jacinto and Lingayen.

Earlier declared to be cleared of illegal drugs were the municipalities of Laoac, Agno, Anda, Dasol, Burgos, Mabini, Natividad, San Nicolas, Alcala, Malasiqui, Sta. Maria, Mapandan, Sison, Alaminos City, and Sto. Tomas. (Nora Dominguez)
