PNP, BFP to strictly monitor sale, use of illegal firecrackers

P PNP together and the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) are on full alert to safeguard welfare of the public by strictly enforcing the law regulating the manufacture, selling and use of firecrackers in welcoming 2018.

P/ Chief Inspector Norman Florentino, police community relations chief of the Pangasinan Police Provincial Office (PPPO), clarified that there is no directive for a firecracker ban but the PNP, with BFP, are strictly enforcing the regulations set by  R.A. 7183 (An Act Regulating the Sale, Manufacture, Distribution and Use of Firecrackers and other Pyrotechnic Devices, particularly monitoring sale and use of the banned firecrackers, namely: watusi, piccolo, super lolo, atomic, big triangulo, mother rockets, lolo thunder, philbox, boga, judah’s belt, big bawang, kwiton, goodbye Philippines and kabasi.

The strict of enforcement of the law was stressed by the Executive Order No. 28 issued by President Duterte.

And to ensure public safety, all the PNP units in the grounds are tasked to inspect all products being sold by vendors with permits, and any and all illegal firecrackers will be promptly confiscated.

Public plazas and areas identified by barangays as firecracker zone will also be strictly monitored by the PNP and BFP.

Florentino also warned parents to closely guard and prevent their their children from picking up unexploded firecrackers.

“Diyan kasi kadalasan nagmumula ang problema namumulot ng paputok na kapag nasa kamay na ay saka biglang pumuputok,” Florentino said.

“Ganundin ang panawagan ng Pangasinan PPO laban sa paggamit ng baril sa pagpapaputok.,” he added.   

The PNP also has a directive prohibiting the illegal discharge of firearms and police officers caught will be summarily discharged from the service, Florentino said.  (Nora Dominguez)
