Suspected financier, mastermind in cop slay nabbed

LAOAC — The son of a former town mayor and the suspected financier and mastermind in the slaying of a policeman in San Carlos City on June 6 this year was arrested.

Arrested was Rufino Estrimundo Tabayoyong Jr., alias “Bong”, son of late Laoac Mayor Westrimundo Tabayoyong, at his residence in Barangay Panag. Laoac town on Sunday Nov. 19, by virtue of a search warrant issued by Regional Trial Court Executive Judge Fernando A. Fe of Bauang, La Union for violation of Republic Act 10591 for illegal possession of firearms.

Tabayoyong, however, flatly denied he was behind the killing of PO2 Jimbo Agtarap who was shot to death by armed men inside a white van along the San Carlos City-Urbiztondo Road in Barangay Agdao, San Carlos City.

Another San Carlos City policeman, PO1 Rachael Cancino, who was a few meters behind the vehicle riding his motorcycle, gave chase but was shot on the legs.

Tabayoyong who was also listed and wanted as a drug pusher in Laoac town,

was arrested by lawmen led by P/Supt. Virgilio Pascua, company commander of the Provincial Public Safety Company and operatives of the Provincial Investigation Branch and Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency.

Seized from his residence were one hand grenade and one Cal. 45 Remington pistol with one magazine containing six live bullets, two plastic medium-size sachet of suspected shabu, one opened plastic sachet containing shabu residue, one weighing scale, four improvised glass tooter with shabu residue, one straight improvised glass tooter, one transparent plastic cup with improvised tooter, two dilapidated lighters and one electronic weighing scale.
