ONLY NINE LEFT TO CLEAR

ONLY eight barangays in Pangasinan have yet to be declared drug-free.

This was bared by P/Chief Inspector Dominic Poblete, chief of operations at the Pangasinan Police Provincial Office (PPPO) on Wednesday, and said this makes Pangasinan practically 99 percent cleared of illegal drugs.

The remaining one percent are the eight barangays in San Fabian, Mangatarem and San Carlos City where drug-clearing operations continue.

Of the 1,364 barangays of Pangasinan, 1,259 were originally considered drug- affected when the war on drugs was declared on July 1, 2016. (428 barangays were not affected).

Of the 48 towns and cities, only Sto Tomas is drug-unaffected.

Meanwhile, 33 other towns and one city were already drug- cleared by PNP but are still awaiting validation by an oversight committee of the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) regional office.

So far, already validated by PDEA are the towns of Agno, Anda, Dasol, Laoac, Mabini, Mapandan, Natividad and San Nicolas and the city of Alaminos which earned the distinction as the first city in the Philippines to be cleared of illegal drugs.

Poblete said, PPPO is confident it can meet its self-imposed target making the province drug-free end of December.

P/Sr. Superintendent Ronald Lee, provincial director, recently launched “Linis Droga” to support PPPO’S campaign to declare the Pangasinan as drug-free on or before the end of this year.

Poblete said Pangasinan police conducted a total of 1,666 anti-illegal drug operations that led to the arrest of 1,780 drug personalities, seizure of 729.25 grams of shabu and 663 grams of marijuana and established that there was no drug laboratory found in Pangasinan.

He also highlighted the following:

  1. In the campaign against illegal firearms, the police conducted 406 operations that resulted in the arrest and filing of cases against 24 persons and confiscation of 393 short and long firearms.
  2. Some 1,262 wanted persons have been arrested including one wanted in the national level.
  3. In the campaign against illegal gambling, 240 persons and seized P145,000.

In sum, Poblete said crime index in Pangasinan particularly on murder, physical injuries, robbery, theft, carnapping and motornapping, and rape have declined. (Leonardo Micua)
