THE five members of a robbery gang killed in an armed encounter with joint police operatives inside a hotel in Pozorrubio turned out to be the same persons who took over and ran away with a black Toyota Fortuner in Barangay Tapuac in Dagupan a day earlier.

P/Supt. Franklin Ortiz, chief of police of Dagupan, said the identities of the robbery gang were known when Charlie Cabalar, driver of the Toyota Fortuner with plate No.  UQA-275 (owned by his employer Rosario Benito,) was presented pictures of the suspects taken from the rogue’s gallery of the police in Agoo, La Union.

Identified were Jomar Bonifacio, Angelo Arpilleda, Arjay Morales and Florence Oliver Eugenio.

Cabalar was brought to the Dagupan police by the Bugallon police.  He was released by the gang in Bugallon.

The suspects reportedly staged a robbery in Agoo before fleeing to Dagupan on board a black Honda Civic.

Cabalar said that he was inside the vehicle parked in front of Edna’s School waiting for the son of his employer when two men who alighted from a black Honda Civic pointed a hand gun at him.

Investigation showed the suspects in a two-vehicle convoy, proceeded to Camiling, Tarlac after releasing Cabalar in Bugallon where they robbed a gasoline station then traveled further to San Marcelino, Zambales rob another station before returning to Pangasinan.

But Ortiz said only the black Toyota Fortuner was found in Pozorrubio in Oct 27 when the police was alerted of the suspects’ presence in a hotel.

He said the suspects were also responsible for the robbery of the Centrum station in Manaoag town two weeks ago.

Ortiz said the group was reportedly robbing gasoline stations where they can. (Leonardo Micua)
