Construction of Dagupan boardwalk set next year

A P75-million boardwalk in Barangay Pantal in Dagupan City is expected to start construction in 2018 after the project is successfully bidded out before the year ends.

Second Pangasinan Engineering District Chief Rodolfo Dion said Friday that Fourth District Rep. Christopher de Venecia had worked for boardwalk project’s budget inclusion in next year’s budget in support of the city’s tourism program.

Dion said a boardwalk like the popular boardwalks of Singapore or In New Jersey or in Cebu, will serve Dagupan well especially for its tourists who are nature lovers.

He, however, cannot yet pinpoint exact location for the boardwalk until the Office of Mayor Belen Fernandez finally determines the exact location of the planned new city hall building.

The boardwalk or promenade will be constructed to complement the surrounding area of the new city hall, he said.

The City Engineer’s Office will design the boardwalk and Dion’s office will

review the design, do the survey of the area and draft the program of work including the construction of access road with some amenities.

He agreed that the new location of the city hall will open a new growth center in Dagupan City and more establishments will be set up along the long road stretch.

Wikipedia described boardwalk as a constructed pedestrian walkway along or overlooking beaches, usually built with wood boards; or as walking paths and trails over bogs and wetlands and above fragile ecosystems. (Eva Visperas)
