No shortage of coins-BSP

THERE is no shortage of coins, according to Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas, Dagupan Branch.

According Romeo Badua, Acting Deputy Director of BSP Dagupan, during the launching of coin exchange or Palit Barya program last September 16 last week,

39, 689 pieces of coins (value: P58,475.09) were collected during the launching of the coin exchange program.

Maria Lourdes Manaois, senior research specialist at the BSP Dagupan office, said the launching of coin exchange was followed in a series of coin exchange program on September 23 in Urdaneta City, and on October 7 in San Carlos City and October 23 in Alaminos City.

She said, the main objective of the program is to recirculate all the coins keep in the alkansya to recirculate the legal tender.

And to avoid for the government to spend more in reproducing coins, the coin exchange program was conducted.

The coins collected by BSP were replaced by paper notes from the new design series of P20 up to P100. (Nora Dominguez)
