PSU’s Caboloan Chorale set to join international tilt

LINGAYEN– The Caboloan Chorale Group of Pangasinan State University (PSU) is set to showcase its prowess in Hội An, Vietnam for the 5th Vietnam International Choir Competition on June 7–11 following its victory in Indonesia last year.

Caboloan, along with La Salle Chorale Group and Colegio San Agustin–Makati, will represent the Philippines in the prestigious choral contest to be participated in by 30 choir groups from Australia, China, Indonesia, Japan, Malaysia, Russia, Thailand, Singapore and Vietnam, report from PSU said.

“We feel so great and fulfilled because the unit was able to contribute in the effort to achieve the mission and vision of PSU,” said Dr. Romary Lincod, deputy director of Culture, Arts and Pangasinan Heritage Studies.

“To represent the country in 5th Vietnam International Choir Competition is indeed an honor and privilege for us,” he added.

To prepare for the competition, the Caboloan Chorale Group will conduct a concert on May 2 to further gain more experience in performing before a large crowd and to augment its funds for the members’ travel expenses.

Lincod said the group rehearses three to four times a week and this month, they included Saturday as whole day training.

The 5th Vietnam International Choir Competition organized by INTERKULTUR, an international top address for choral contests and festivals joined by over 120,000 choirs groups with 4.8 million singers, aims to provide an outstanding presentation of choral singing of participants from different countries and cultural regions which will greatly highlight their variety of styles and customs.

Meanwhile, as part of the growing career of Caboloan, Lincod had registered it with the International Dance Council to strengthen international linkages of PSU-Cultural Affairs.

On July 7-11, the PSU-Caboloan plans to attend World Dance Research Congress in Athens, Greece to solidify participation of Caboloan Dance Group in international dance competitions particularly the PSU-Dance Sports. (Tita Roces)
