MALASIQUI town’s elementary and high school students will participate in nine sports events lined up for the First Malasiqui Sports Academy starting April 17.

According to Mayor Noel Anthony M. Geslani, it was decided during his March 29 meeting with the schools’ officials and barangay sports coordinators at the Malasiqui Central School, there will be competition in basketball, volleyball, chess, table tennis, badminton, taekwondo and sepak-takraw to be played in different venues and road events – cycling and marathon – as special events of the affair.

He said volleyball, chess, badminton, taekwondo and sepak-takraw will be played at the town’s central school while table tennis will be the national high school and the basketball games at the Arenas Civic Center.

“We have to start the sports aim to discover potential athletes that could eventually bring honor to our town and to our province someday,” said Geslani. “We also believe that linking our young ones in sports activities is the best way to curb the drug menace now affecting our society,” he added.
