A fitting tribute

THE surprise gesture of the officials and employees of the provincial government expressing their unsolicited admiration and gratitude for their boss, Guv Spines, is the highest tribute that a public servant can wish for.

An effective executive is usually firm and is often misinterpreted by inefficient subordinates as being harsh and insensitive. He is often cussed behind his back by his detractors in the organization, for obvious reasons. But only a professional executive and a leader with a vision can work with a steady hand to make others learn to accept change and a higher standard for the organization and for themselves. Through some mistakes, he showed how lessons can be learned.

Such was the case of Guv Spines. When vision and management showed positive results early on, morale greatly improved and the constituents were the happiest. After these, it was only a matter of time before believers began to bestow genuine respect and admiration as demonstrated during the 5th Employees Awards and Recognition ceremony last January 22.

To the provincial government’s officials and employees who made it to the grade of excellence, and to Guv Spines who made excellence a standard for public service, take a bow!! Applause, applause!

Senate clowns

EXCEPT for Sen. Juan Ponce Enrile’s stinging indictment of President Aquino as solely to blame for the death of the SAF 44 on January 25 last year, the Senate’s reopening of the hearing of what is now known as the Mamasapano Massacre by Moro rebels in Mindanao was essentially but a circus of sorts.  The chief clowns were none other than Senators Drilon, Trillanes and Guingona, who defended

Mr. Aquino to high heavens. Pathetic.

For, while Mr. Enrile was fully armed with loads of what appear like damaging, if not wholly incriminating, text messages indicating that President Aquino had full knowledge of the failed “Oplan Exodus” to arrest dead or alive international Malaysian terrorist Marwan (he was killed in the operation) contrary to earlier reports, the troika took turns defending the chief executive.  Well, nobody’s surprise. Mr. Aquino’s allies were as rabid as they can be.

So, what else is new?  Politicians had proven it again: They are only good at protecting their own.
