A WORLD without God is a world that cannot have peace.

Thus intoned Lingayen-Dagupan Archbishop Socrates Villegas, president of the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of the Philippines (CBCP) in reaction to the Paris bombing last week.

And he appealed: “Pray for Paris. Pray for the victims and their grieving loved ones. Pray for the terrorists that a new sense of humanity will possess their souls again.”

“Our brothers’ blood is crying from the bloodied soil not for vengeance but for end to senseless violence. Stop terror! Do not be afraid of peace!,” he added.

Villegas, in his Facebook account, wrote “A world where citizens lay aside obedience to God’s laws and put human laws above the divine commandments cannot have peace.”

He said a society that allows babies waiting to be born to be terrorized legally and allows the strong to terrorize and kill their bedridden elders cannot have peace.

“Terror is not a surprise attack. Terror is a slow erosion of our reverence for God,” Villegas said.

He said that if peace starts in the heart, so does terror. “We reap what we
sow. It is time to search our souls! There is no peace without God,” he
added.

“Causing the death of anyone is a sin against God and a crime against humanity,” he said. (Tita Roces)
