THE muzzles of all firearms issued to policemen in Pangasinan will be sealed with tape to remind them of the order of the Pangasinan Provincial Police Station not to use these for indiscriminate firing from December 22, 2014 to Jan. 5, 2015, particularly on the eve of New Year on December 31.

P/Supt. Ferdinand de Asis, PPPS information officer, said P/Senior Supt. Reynaldo Biay, officer-in-charge at the Pangasinan PPO, ordered all police personnel in Pangasinan to cover the muzzles of their guns starting Dec. 22.

The move is part of the Ligtas Paskuhan 2014, a special police operations for the holidays, said De Asis during the KBP Forum here last Thursday.

The objective is to have zero-indiscriminate firing for the duration of the holiday season but one incident of indiscriminate firing was already registered in Urdaneta City.

De Asis said the PPO already wrote presidents of gun clubs in towns and cities and invited them to join the police in simultaneously taping the muzzle of their firearms on Dec. 22 to help the campaign.

The sealing of muzzles of guns will be held simultaneously in all police stations including the PPPO.

At the same time, the police chiefs in 48 towns and cities have been were instructed to seek the support of their respective mayors to regulate the sale and lighting of fireworks during the New Year revelry.

In Mangaldan town, P/Supt. Jacky Candelario, chief of police, said Mayor Bona Fe Parayno has already designated firecracker zones and an area where vendors can sell authorized firecrackers as part of the safety measures to protect residents from harm during the yuletide season. (Leonardo Micua)
