700 Kids receive the Sacrament of Baptism

SOME 700 children, aged zero to six years old, were baptized on December 8 during a mass baptism at the St. John the Evangelist Cathedral with Mayor Belen T. Fernandez as the main godparent.

The mass baptism is in fulfillment of the promise of Mayor Fernandez to sponsor mass baptism every year she was the vice-mayor in 2007 so children of poor parents can be brought closer to the church.

From 2007 to date, 7,000 children have been baptized at no costs to the parents. “I feel fulfilled seeing these children receive the Sacrament of Baptism and we will continue to look for children in our city who have not yet received the sacrament,” Fernandez said.

The sacrament of baptism was administered by seven priests led by Lingayen-Dagupan Archbishop Socrates B. Villegas. (Joseph C. Bacani/CIO)
