LINGAYEN– The Association of Tourism Officers of the Philippines (ATOP) and the Department of Tourism (DOT) cited anew how Pangasinan observed its tourism week with a festival.

Special Events Office head Marife Acerit said in an interview that Pangasinan bagged two major Pearl Awards namely Best Tourism Event- Festival (first runner up) for its culture and arts festival dubbed Balitok A Tawir and Best Tourism Week/ Month (second runner up) during the ATOP convention in Bacolod City. It was the second time for the province to garner the prestigious awards.

Balitok A Tawir underscores Pangasinan’s culture and arts through the conduct of contests on folk dances, songs, and zarzuela participated in by the province folks. According to the Governor Amado Espino Jr. who conceptualized the event, the festival is for the younger generation to experience the beauty of the province especially during the previous years.

Balitok A Tawir Year 4 in December will have the three contests-folk dance, singing, zarzuela- rolled into one, tagged ‘sinesayawit.’- (Johanne R. Macob)
