CALASIAO—The P75 million loan of the local government unit (LGU) here from the Land Bank of the Philippines (LBP) has been finalized with the signing of a loan agreement between Mayor Mark Roy Macanlalay and LBP officials last week.

The loan according to the ordinance no. 01-2014 of the Sangguniang Bayan will be used “to fund the construction or completion of the Calasiao sports and commercial complex in the amount of P55 million, construction of a new slaughterhouse with facilities and equipment in the amount of P10 million and installation of street lights along processional and national roads in the amount of P10 million.

Macanlalay said the loan is necessary since the two projects are income-generating.

The allocated amount for the new slaughterhouse is the counterpart of the LGU to the P10 million-budget from the Department of Agriculture (DA) coursed through the National Meat Inspection Services (NMIS).

“We have requested the DA for the funding of the slaughterhouse and they have agreed to share half of the total amount needed for this project”, said Macanlalay.

Although the town still has an existing slaughterhouse, a new slaughterhouse will be built in barangay Gabon as a class AAA facility.

“There are only a few class AAA slaughterhouses in the province and we plan to cater to the nearby towns like Malasiqui, Sta. Barbara and even Dagupan City,” he said. (Hilda M. Austria)
