THE Commission on Higher Education (CHED) has called on educational institutions in Pangasinan to continue upgrading their programs, facilities and faculty to encourage Pangasinenses to pursue their studies in the province.

“I encourage, inspire and give support to colleges and universities to upgrade their standards so students will not have to go to Manila,” said CHED Chairman Emmanuel Y. Angeles.

He noted that many schools in the province are striving to be centers of excellence in the different professional courses.

Angeles, speaking at the commencement ceremony of the Pangasinan State University (PSU) on March 20, also announced that changes in CHED policies are forthcoming this year.

He added that some private schools will be allowed provided 70 percent of the increase should go to the salary adjustments of faculty and personnel.

PSU

PSU is among the schools that will be implementing a tuition fee increase in the new school year that will start in June.

PSU President Victoriano Estira, however, stressed that the school remains one of the most affordable academic institutions with high quality standards.

“Admission is free for programs not requiring board exams. However, we now restrict admission to programs requiring board exam,” Estira said.

“A freshman will just be paying a little close to P5,000 which is considered very low,” Estira explained.

PSU has campuses in Asingan, Bayambang, Binmaley, Infanta, Lingayen, San Carlos, Sta Maria, Urdaneta. It also has a Graduate School, the ETEEAP, and the Open University Systems.
