THE President of Equatorial Guinea, who is on six-day state visit in the Philippines, will arrive in Dagupan City as special guest of House Speaker Jose de Venecia Jr.

His Excellency Teodoro Obiang Nguema Mbasogo, president of Equatorial Guinea, will fly via helicopter from Manila to barangay Bonuan Binloc with Speaker de Venecia.

Part of his schedule is a visit to the 24-hectare National Integrated Fisheries Technology Development Center, a research facility of the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources.

BFAR Director Malcolm Sarmiento and Dr. Westly Rosario, interim executive director of the National Fisheries Research Development Institute and concurrent chief of NIFTDC, will welcome the presidential party.

Rosario said the NIFTDC is willing to share its research works in fisheries and aquaculture with Equatorial Guinea.

Equatorial Guinea is a rich oil-producing country with less than a million population.

While at the NIFTDC, President Obiang will witness the seeding in selected areas of the Lingayen Gulf of juveniles of the mollusk called top-shell (Trochus Niloticos) which has a big commercial value.

Top-shell is a large conical shell having an inner thick layer of mother-of-pearl technically known as nacfre. They can grow to a shell diameter of 12 centimeters and may live for 12 years.

The seeding operation is a joint project of NFRDI, BFAR and the privately-owned Iris Marine Development Corporation.
