Mrs. Villasis contest rakes in P19.9M
FUNDS raised from the Mrs. Villasis 2012 search reached P19,865,303.60, the highest amount recorded since the annual popularity contest was started years ago.
The money goes to the local government and will be used for infrastructure and other development projects.
Specifically, the proceeds of the Villasis Town Fiesta 2012 are intended for the renovation of the Villasis Legislative Building.
Last year, the municipal government bought one brand new ambulance and one fire truck from the proceeds of Mrs. Villasis.
Mayor Dita Abrenica said the successful fund-raising reflected the unity, cooperation and collective efforts of the candidates, their supporters here and abroad, and the townspeople as a whole.
The winning candidate, Beatriz de Vera-Olivar, who will be crowned during the town fiesta celebration this month, brought in more than P10 million.
In second place is Cristina Manantan-Abenes with P6,071, 061, while Merlita Rayray-Magtaan is third with P3, 114, 845.
The fiesta will also feature the Talong/Pinakbet Festival which is aimed at promoting the town’s main produce, eggplant, and other vegetables used in the pinakbet dish.—Eva Visperas
