Trade office explains dip in LPG price
THE good news is the price of liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) is finally going down. The bad news is the price will shoot up again once the demand perks up.
This was how an official of the Department of Trade provincial office explained the unexpected but welcome decrease in the price of liquefied petroleum gas (LPG).
Daria Mingaracal, DTI provincial director, pointed out that it was a simple case of supply and demand in the market.
She said oil companies and LPG distributors were compelled to roll back LPG prices by 50 centavos per kilo or P5.50 for the 11-kilogram LPG starting March 16 owing to a slack in the demand for the commodity.
Apparently, since the price of LPG shot up, consumers have begun turning to the other alternative, the use of charcoal.
This clarification belied earlier claims of distributors that the spiraling price of LPG was influenced by cost of oil in the world market.
Mingaracal, however, said that slash in the new price of LPG might not yet be in effect as retailers may not have yet completed their inventory.
Based on monitoring conducted by the DTI, LPG is still being sold at P516.. Last month, the price per 11-kilo LPG cylinder was P522.
