YMCA Dagupan shines in 21st PKF National Karate meet

The YMCA Dagupan City Team once again showed its prowess at the 21st PKF National Open Karate Championship held May 24-25 at the Ninoy Aquino Stadium in Manila where they clinched one gold, three silver, and two bronze medals.

 Seven- year old John Enrico Vasquez (Mother Goose School) won the gold in the 9-years old and below Advance Boy’s Kata. Vasquez was the 2007 National Philippines Olympic Festival Champion held at the Ultra Sports Complex in October last year.

 Rookie Raniela Isabel Gutierrez (La Marea Academy), champion of the 2008 Philippine Olympic Festival- Central North Luzon, clinched the silver in the 8-9 years old Girl’s Kumite.

 Ramil Macaalay, 2006 National Philippine Olympic Festival champion and 2007 PKF National Open Karate Championships Silver Medalist and a fresh graduate of LNU Special Science, won the silver inthe plus 53 kg 16 to 17 Boy’s Kumite while Jayson Laso won bronze in Kata.

 Fidel Salvador Reyes (University of Luzon), 2007 PKF National Open Karate Championship gold medalist, won the silver in the Minus 53 kg 16 to 17Boy’s Kumite while 2007 Phil Olympic Festival National Champion Daniel Kurt Vidal (Ednas School) won the bronze in the 12 to 13 Boy’s Kumite.

 Vasquez and Gutierrez have qualified in the Philippine Pewee National Pool while Laso and Reyes qualified in the Philippine Junior’s National. 

The Philippine Karate Federation Open Championship is considered the highest level in national sports karate competition because gold and silver medalists are elevated to the Philippine Team.#
