ASINGAN – Was it the handiwork of terrorists or killers-for hire?

A grenade explosion that tore the frontage of Aqua   Mega Mineral Water Refilling Station on Soloria Street in Poblacion East here Monday night left the police facing a blank wall.

Supt. Fidel Drapeza, chief of police, said initial investigations showed that the grenade was tossed by an unidentified man who alighted from a motorcycle driven by another, and asked for the price of refilled bottles.

But before Juliet Zareno, 40, cashier, could reply, she saw the man pull out a fragmentation grenade from his pocket and tossed it inside the water refilling station.

Fortunately no one was hurt as the station’s two employees managed to scamper out of the station before the grenade exploded.

Police who rushed to the crime scene found shrapnel of the grenade and the lock pin. The window glasses of the refilling station were shattered to pieces.

Drapeza said the refilling station is owned by Mrs. Eugene de Leon whose family lives behind the refilling station.

De Leon was at a loss as to motive behind the grenade explosion.
