Death toll now 38
Last Wednesday’s count of 29 deaths has risen to 38 as of Friday, while 61 were treated for injuries.
The latest count was based on reports received by the Provincial Disaster Coordinating Council (PDCC) and is believed not be the final count as situation and damage reports continue to trickle in from the affected towns.
So far, 10 towns and 3 cities reported the highest number offatalities.
PDCC Executive Officer Paterno Orduña said the latest recorded fatalities are five males who drowned in Sual town at the height of the typhoon but their bodies were only recovered and reported to the PDCC on Thursday.
The victims were identified as Winwin Villamar, Rommel Canumague, Wilmar Benitez, Oliver Nuige and Filjon Miral.
It was in the Lingayen Gulf near Sual where a tornado was spotted, spawned by typhoon ‘Cosme’, said Orduña.
Two others were earlier reported drowned in Sual namely Fidel Kulanag, 33; and Emerito Bustato, 30.
Before the Sual report, the latest fatalities were reported in Aguilar, Mangaldan and Mabini towns.
Deaths were earlier reported in Bugallon, Dagupan City, Infanta, Lingayen, Mapandan, San Carlos City, Sta. Barbara, Sual and Urdaneta City.
The latest additions were Adelaido Predas, 65, of Baybay, Aguilar who was hit by a falling debris at the height of the typhoon; Mario Sagurit, 50, of Mangaldan; and Alberto Sacatropiz of Mabini.
Reported dead by the local disaster coordinating councils earlier were Virginia Garcia of Aguilar, Lourdes Soriano, Cesario Basi, Remedios Paulo and Tisoy Cayabyab of Bugallon; Miguel Poserio, his brother Randyl and Rodyl, and an unidentified woman who suffered a heart attack at the height of the typhoon, all of Dagupan City;
Elpidio Maoile, Francisco Cuanan and Jesus Caric of Infanta; Nicadio Ferrer, Luigi Rosario, Pablo Cruz Sr., Pepe Molano, Cristituto Fernandez and Maxima Madarang of Lingayen;
Carlito Maganes of Mangaldan, Dominador Sison, Mangatarem; Rica Ann Velasquez, Mapandan; Jose de Guzman, Pacita Aquino and Rogelio Austria of San Carlos City; Lilia Sumilla and Edwin Reyes of Sta. Barbara; and Jessa Dacasin and Marcos Quinto of Urdaneta City. #
