POLICE stations across the province were heavily damaged as well.

This report prompted Philippine National Police (PNP) Chief Director General Avelino Razon Jr. to rush to the province to conduct an ocular inspection and do an immediate assessment of the damage caused by Typhoon ‘Cosme’.

Within hours, he directed the release of P2 million initially to cover costs of immediate repairs of the damaged police stations in the province.

Razon, accompanied by various directorial staff of the PNP in Camp Crame, also brought two truckloads of relief goods for distribution in severely affected areas.

“I came not only to assess the peace and order but more importantly to look at the damage,”  he told police chiefs led by Chief Supt. Romeo Hilomen, the regional police director, Pangasinan police director Sr.  Supt. Isagani Nerez and La Union police director Sr. Supt. Noli Taliño.

He also promised to send more relief goods donated by various non-government organizations intended for typhoon victims.

These, he said, will be distributed in coordination with the Department of Social welfare and Development.

Meanwhile, Razon said the police should double their efforts in guarding the relief goods against thieves and looters who are likely to take advantage of the absence of electricity in many barangays. -#
